(Book). My Bloody Roots is the brutally honest story of life in two of the world's best-known heavy metal bands, Sepultura and Soulfly, by one of the global metal scene's most respected musicians. Much, much more than just another tale of rock'n'roll debauchery, it's a story of heartbreak and loss-and, ultimately, triumph. In it, Cavalera offers an unflinching account of life growing up in hardship in Brazil a country not previously known for heavy metal and the multi-million-selling success, against all odds, of the band he founded with his brother, Iggor: Sepultura. Then, for the first time, he reveals the full story behind his split with the band after which he did not speak to his brother for years and the formation of his band Soulfly, one of the most critically and commercially successful metal bands of the past two decades. He also goes into unflinching detail on the devastating impact of the deaths of his father, stepson, and grandson; his struggles with drugs and alcohol; and his eventual reunion with Iggor in The Cavalera Conspiracy. Max Cavalera has a unique and extraordinary story to tell, and My Bloody Roots is an autobiography like no other. This is essential reading for all fans of metal.
The secret came out!! Max is a guest on the Scotland-based Man Must Die release, expected at the end of the year. He is super pumped about them asking him to lend his throat to their creation! I heard the sneak-peak and it's as brutal as they come (*Gloria Cavalera*). Gonna be Manslaughter In The Pit!!!!

SOULFLY have revealed the album cover to their upcoming ninth studio album Savages. The artwork was created by renowned artist Paul Stottler, who is best known for SCARED REICH’s legendary Surf Nicaragua cover.
“Recording Savages was an amazing experience for me,” commented the legendary frontman Max Cavalera. “I was so excited to work with Terry Date, whom I consider to be one of the best producers of all time. He has done some great records and we have been in contact for a while since he mixed three SOULFLY albums in the past. He came to see SOULFLY whenever we played in Seattle, and we finally made it work that he would be the producer for Savages.
My teammates were awesome. Marc did some crazy guitar noises and we did a 'Mars Part Two' at the end of 'El Comegente' - it's very LED ZEPPELIN influenced and Marc kicked some ass on it. I wrote 'El Comegente' with Tony Campos. It's in Portuguese and Spanish and it's about Vargas - a Venezuelan cannibal from the 80's. He is the Hannibal Lecter of the Andes. Crazy shit! I worked for the first time on a full album with my son, Zyon. Before recording the album I first worked closely at home with him in pre-production, and it was great to spend weeks on the songs with Zyon, shaping the sound of the record. Zyon did a great job and he hits really hard just like his uncle Igor - it was amazing recording with my son. A whole record! A dream come true for a father whose life is dedicated to metal. Savages is a celebration of all that.”
Ever since the band's gold-certified debut in 1998, SOULFLY have become deadlier and more dangerous with each critically acclaimed successive release and Savages is no exception. The record was produced by the world-renowned Terry Date (PANTERA, DEFTONES, SOUNDGARDEN), and will also be the first to feature Max Cavalera's 21-year-old son Zyon on drums. Savages will be released as a limited edition digipak CD, 2LP vinyl and digital download on October 1 (North America) and October 4 (Europe) via Nuclear Blast. Guest vocal appearances on Savages include bass player Tony Campos, Max Cavalera's other son Igor Cavalera (LODY KONG), CLUTCH's Neil Fallon, NAPALM DEATH's Mitch Harris and Jamie Hanks of I DECLARE WAR fame.
“I am stoked to have been asked by Max to participate on the 'Ayatollah Of Rock 'N' Rolla' track,” commented Fallon. “Max brought CLUTCH out on some of our earliest and most formative tours and this brought back some very fond memories of singing with Max all those years ago.“
“It was an honor for me to finally collaborate on a song with Max and co.,” added Harris. “It's something we've been talking about for the last 9 years. I've always felt like part of the Cavalera extended family, and for me it was a truly uplifting, comforting and memorable experience after say 26 years or so. We ran through all the takes together, trying to capture the carnal energy, the push and pull between force and action. Friction, charisma, and something true directing the sole intent of the message, that was my general angle on it. Art and expression are about capturing the moment, the essence of a connection between like-minded souls, expanding on concise ideas that start small and end up big.”

As if there was a more metal way to come into the world, Zyon’s heartbeat in utero served as the intro to SEPULTURA’s 1993 classic RIAA-gold-certified record Chaos A.D. Max would depart SEPULTURA soon after the release of Roots in 1996.
