The show was fuckin' awesome!

Incite got the crowd going. WW was okay, and FBC was pretty good. Lots of energy and heavy!

Soulfly kicked ass. An even better show than last year!

I will post the setlist/pics later.

alright, no pictures or videos, but i can share my memory of the night's events.

i called the band at noon to see what their days schedule might look like, and at that point, they were in the process of getting their tour bus washed at a supposedly busy bus-washing station somewhere between kansas and minneapolis and were unsure of when they'd be in town. later that day i called them back and they said it'd be cool if i came down to the show at 7:00 to talk and stuff.

i got to the venue at 7:00 and went to the bus to discuss some stuff with gloria right away. the bus was filled with various people and i noticed a table full of some gourmet italian food. right away she offered me a massive italian sandwich and some soda and made me feel at home.

we talked about what we would both like to do with the website at first. i let her know that i hoped to make the site a more interactive area for fans, but that i'd like some of the guys in the band to have more to do with the site, as well. Joe was on the bus too, and right away he agreed and said that they could all post updates every so often and use myspace and the site to talk to fans and answer questions more.

gloria also told me that they have a full dvd of live material (most of it from europe, including a full show in poland) and many live and rare soulfly tracks. they apparently plan to edit the video footage together into some dvd, but she didn't say when it would come out. also they will be using an upcoming myspace feature where they will sell some of the rare songs and videos via the myspace page.

she also said that after the u.s tour, they will be playing in australia, and then south america, and then will take a break for a while.

i sat on the bus for another hour or so and talked to gloria about various other things that i wil not mention, talked to rizzo about his plans, ate, and got my passes for the night.

i then went inside the venue to watch incite perform, they sounded much tighter than the last time i saw them. they have begun to find their own sound a bit more now. ritchie told me that they will be doing a showcase for relapse records pretty soon. i went behind their merchbooth after their set and talked with the dudes and ^partied^ with them when wicked wisdom started up.

hey performed some fairly average heavy metal, and their use of the keyboards was rather interesting. i continued to watch the show with brandon and ritchie from incite as the crowd went nuts for full blown chaos. circle pits all over the place!

when they were finished, brandon said that some of the guys from wicked wisdom were gonna have a smoke session and wondered if i'd be interested. i went onto the back of wicked wisdom's bus with about 5 others and we shared stories, political opinions, musical histories, and baseball predictions in the midst of a cloud of smoke (as jada pinkett smith popped her head in and out, only a few feet away). i had just gotten a hold of some excellent outdoor california sativa before the show so i was happy to join in.

i realized that it was getting to be close to the time soulfly was going to go onto stage, so i excused myself and got off the bus to go back inside the venue. joe was outside, and i wished him good luck before the show. ritchie was also outside, and i earlier in the night in had asked him to smoke, so i had to break the news to him that he missed the session. he was bummed for a bit, but then we started to chat about a bunch of the shows i had just scene and he started to cheer up. max, gloria, and the whole soulfly entourage walked by just then, and gloria told ritchie to show me a good place to watch the show from at the side of the stage.

ritchie led me to an unbelievable close and excellent sounding spot about 5 feet to marc rizzo's right, and that's where i would stay for the rest of the night. they launched right into the setlist that jarret posted and the whole night was one crazy speed fest, accompanied by a constant circle pit. joe sounded really sharp last night in particular. i could really feel the energy resonating from his kit. marc and dave were spot on as well. dave kept the crowd grooving while marc putting them in complete awe with his guitar playing antics. max, although sick, was really feeling the vibe from the crowd was playing like a madman in return. my favorite songs of the night were the really interesting porrada/angel of death collabo., inner self, l.o.t.m., and mars. i will still never ever ever get over the fact that for 80 minutes, i literally shared a stage with max cavalera, dave ellefson, marc rizzo, and joe nunez... ever..
