I do agree here plus, to be honest, i always love the vibe close to self titled until 3,i mean, the traditional Soulfly sound, Im not looking for something fast or old school metal-lish beats(as most people demand).Thats how i feel Soulfly isolate from the other bands, anyway, schizophrenia and beneath are just on my shelves if I want Max bleeds my eardrum.

Exactly. I don't want Soulfly to recreat old Sepultura sound. I want them to experiment with their own unique sound. They were evolving in this way utill Conquer. Dark Ages is the perfect balance between their experimental side and oldschool thrash while Conquer had a lot less experimentation which I really missed.

I think Joe Nunez and the drum production handlers should find more appreciation in Mayorga's recording efforts with Soulfly, and what the combination of his style and the production style did when mixed with guitar & bass.

Self titled, still, to this day, IMO the drums on that.. the FEEL of that album... jeebus it gives me the willies still. #3 has a similar feel. Joe's efforts with the band make him sound too clinical & precise. The skill's there, definitely. It's too exact & clean though. (Don't get me wrong though, I love the drums on "The Prophet" & "Molotov")
... Listen to the drums on LOTM. Mayorga's drums & cymbals all bleed together to create this visceral wicked ride.

... & Max should consider changing tone on his guitar a bit; it's been much the same since #3.

... And Max etc... can you guys please get Jackson in there for a song? I often forget how awesome he Chico Science/Nacao Zumbi'ed that first album soooo nicely...

I think all of the albums are great, and Nunez is definitely a great drummer. There's just some moments that Roy did some epic things... a riff after a bass lead-in on "The Song Remains Insane", the hard charge of "Bumbklaatt", "Eye for an Eye", "Cangaciero", the "how did he come up with that?" of "LOTM"...

Joe IMO does his best work on "Prophet", "Frontlines", "Molotov" and "Unleash". I actually think he's caught a little bit mentally in a rough spot being the drummer in this band, and it lends to him creating some predictable riffs. Probably doesn't want to sound too much like Iggor or Roy, but needs to properly compliment the band & forge the "feel" of Soulfly. It's gotta be a tough responsibility, akin to Jean's job @ Sepultura.

Ya know, maybe if they'd just alter the production a bit, I might feel at least a bit differently. The drum production really hasn't changed much at all since Prophecy. The snare and bass drum and cymbal micing sound much the same to my ears. I really feel that a change would help the sound. I'd love to hear Joe's efforts in a more organic production setting.

But this could be sourced from Max himself. CC's drumming is also mic'ed much like Soulfly's recent albums, and the personality of Iggor's drumming doesn't get its chance to shine through (I know he used a different kit than what he had been using as well)... this could end up being a production decision by Max, as he does have enough wherewithal about drums to create demos himself with drum parts that he has written.

Maybe I pine for something that will never be, idk.

[url=http://www.metalinjection.net:1a9irntw]MetalInjection.net[/url:1a9irntw] will be premiering the first in-studio video diary tomorrow! In it, Max gives a tour of the Lair Studio (where the drums have been tracked), introduces Logan, and reveals tentative titles for the album and the songs that are being recorded.

The tribe will now be moving over to El Roacho Studio to track bass, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and all of the other sounds...
