A Life Less Ordinary?

Why would anyone choose this life? You stand out like a sore thumb. And in this world that alone can end up costing you your life.

But do we choose it? I think IT chooses US, and we have almost no say in the matter.

Maybe things are a little different now than when i was young. "Moshers" are now recognised as a sub-culture by society at large. Maybe these days it IS something you choose. But it wasn't always that way.

To quote The Buzzcocks:

"Ever Fallen In Love With Someone You Shouldn't Have Fallen In Love With?"

If you ever have then you might understand when i say that while you can see all the very obvious faults of that person, you are still in love with them. While you can see that someone is no good for you, and even see why no-one else gets it, you just can't help yourself. That person just DOES something to you.

Well in my opinion it's the same with music.

While on the one hand i would argue that many bands i love are amongst some of the most talented creative people in the world, i can also see that these are grown men growling like children pretending to be the devil, while playing music that is unfathomable to most of society. And some of the more technical bands i love are basicly creating works that sound like jazz made by people on crystal meth.

But i'm a firm believer that, like love, music should have as little to do with your brain as possible and go straight for your heart. Or in the case of music i suppose it should go straight for your toes / neck etc. If you find that you are tapping your feet or nodding your head to some sounds BEFORE you start noticing how blindingly talented the artists are, then job well done

And i can't help it. While my brain knows that this may well be a harder life, this music just makes my hairs stand on end. It makes me feel like there is nothing else in the world that matters as much as this. And i end up just feeling sorry for all those that don't get it.

They will never have this rush (no pun intended).

couldnt have said it better myself, the music chooses you.

for a long time i tried pushing metal out of my life. i am a christian, not only that but one of those that actually ATTENDS church. started going about 2 years ago. for 2 years tried pushing metal out, doing everything possible to ignore it. and it was making me feel like i was..missing something. the same way you miss someone you love, that feeling of a void in your chest.

i know this is the harder life, but each metalhead needs to know you are stronger and (mostly) more intelligent for it, and not to conform to the sides of the box you have been put in (or put yourself in).

i will tell anyone who asks i am a metal head. with my head held high. if they ask why, i will tell them my music chose me, not the other way round. God is willing and this is my path.
