Well DEP are a mathcore band so they're hardly metal. Their style is more based on hardcore than metal really. But what do I care I'm not a fan anyway.

well, yeh 99-2000 isn't really new. but to be honest with you i'd say 99% of bands in the mainstream or that labels have been signing since then are very similar to each other and have such desire for fame and materialistic or visualistic trends that they disgrace what metal really is.
