Hi guys.

I'm a 31 yr old white guy living in the Eastern US. I'm a hobbyist musician, and have been in a few small-time bands over the years, either as a drummer, rhythm guitarist or singer.

I have some crap equipment in my attic as well as a four-track. Often times my ideas pull heavily from influences such as Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, Jesse Hughes of Eagles of Death Metal, The White Stripes...

... and Iggor Cavalera, Roy Mayorga and Max.

I've recorded a few metal-ish ideas over the years, but always felt like what was created was too vague in its styling... I have a major affinity for All Soulfly featuring Roy Mayorga...

I don't really feel that Soulfly's first album suffers from nu-metal-itis; IMO thats a criticism that is not properly founded. The pacing, timing and grit of that record still sears my soul.

Anyway, I recorded a song the other day. It'll be fleshed out Much more over the next little while... more verses, lengthier chorus, a lead, bass... oh and it'll be mixed better, mic'ed better, etc.... This recording was just documentation of an idea.

So check it out @ http://www.myspace.com/lowfiemphatic ... it's called "Torture at the End". Most of the words right now were just filler. I hope you guys can appreciate the feel of this material. I fully know that the quality is bad and I don't care about that at the moment. I know how to make four-track stuff sound good (please see "Trust the Flow" on the same myspace page.

Anyway, it's good to be here. It's nice to know that my voice has recovered somewhat after I lost use of one vocal chord. I've been in remission since last November after a 2 yr battle with a terminal cancer diagnosis... I thought I'd never be able to record again, let alone vocals.

Take care, and I hope you guys see at least some sort of value in my material. I did this out of respect for the sound that Max and crew created between '93 and '98, and slightly reprised for the third album.

I can't wait to hear what this sounds like in a few months.

Thanks guys.

I plan to Mayorga-ize the drums much further (I've worked on his fills for years not that you can tell in the demo lol), tighten the chops on the rhythm guitar, add a short Kisser-esqe (though not early as good) lead in there... and keep some of the reverb on both the drums (maybe not in all parts) and the vocals.

I'll probably publish some more demo material over the next few months whilst I polish this one up.

Oh and the lyrics... I'm debating whether to go for an Arise-era theme or to go for something like Bumbklaat /No Hope=No Fear/No/Four Elements/LOTM. Or I may further develop the theme already in place.

We'll see...

yep, Mayorga is the best!
nice job man, bad quality... post it here again after you "polish" it up, ok?

Or maybe Jello Biafra style, lol! Or Jaz from Killing Joke, hehe.

... eh, I'll figure something out... and if I don't I'll just put this with my other recorded material in my idea archive.

I've sang/screamed along with this a few times but can't quite figure out what this track feels like.

It seems to feel urgent and stressed, but not apocalyptically angry.

Thx for checking it out Metal Lawyer. Hope it's stuck in yr head. :p

Continuing my stylistic journey, I came up with something yesterday that ended up with a similar timing and rhythm to Sepultura's "Filthy Rot", except instead of a 5/8 time it's a weird 6/8 that wraps around itself nicely. I recorded it, but there's a lot of work to do on it still, so I'll put its next iteration up for listening. I also went VERY Melvins for a bit yesterday while recording and made a couple riff/rhythm combos that were very brutal in a Buzzo/Dale way... I'll incorporate them into something upcoming as well.

Here's a Youtube of the concept I talked about in the previous post. ... threw some bass on it as well. I compressed it so it'd sound a bit neater. Still thinking about what type of vocals to throw on top of it.
