It wasn't an example, I was trying to be funny. Nice of you not to notice it.

I'd say a pressure drill makes a bit more noise than a cell phone.

a pressure drill can only be used under license of the government...
a cellphone not
all loud things are forbidden without license
now u would say a cellphone isn't loud

but in public places (buildings, transportation etc.) all kinda music making things are forbidden, only if u have earplugs.
it's just the same rule as smoking in public places

ur talking about an object that hasn't been researched for cancer yet, at least the effects aren't clear yet...
coz it sends out radiation and sound has almost the same qualities as electromagnetic radiation, but needs a medium to travel trough...
anyway, if ur gonna give me a bullshit reason about getting cancer from cigarettes (if ur in a big public building, u won't even get effect from cigarette smoke).
I was talking about smellyness from the smoke, just as noise from the cellphone....

So the bus driver is not allowed to listen to the radio while driving? Or a taxi driver can't turn the radio on 'cos it'll disturb the person sitting in the taxi? Oppression is all I can say. With all the noise everywhere all the time I don't see how one dude playing music with his cell phone crushes your world.

Cancer is hardly bullshit. Besides, cigarettes give you other lung problems apart from cancer, which cellphone definitely does not. I understand your point, that it's bloody annoying, but all I'm saying is that annoying things do not need to be regulated by law. Cigarettes are different, 'cos they give you health problems.

Now that I've said my opinion about the subject and before this gets to a grade school level argument, I'll stop posting in this thread because it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.
