Good, but typical, soulfly performance.

This was the fourth Soulfly show i have been to in the last 5 years, and certainly the least entertaining. It was still an OK show, but for a 8 hour drive each way, I would have liked more! I still cant get over how few people were there! My wife and I were right upfront, and when you turned around to the back of the crowd, it was pretty sparse. I actually feel bad and dissapointed for the bands that played, the crowd turnout was pathetic. The first time we saw them in Minneapolis ( at Station 4) the crowd was WAY bigger, and had much more energy. Max looks like he is slowing down even more. He would go off stage for a bit after every 3 or four songs. There were a few stairs on the side of the stage, and it looked like the stairs were giving him some trouble. He just kinda looked tired the whole show. Maybe it's harder for him to get into the show, if the crowd isn't into it? All in all, ok, but not great. |

totally right, the crowd was a bummer. maybe 250 there at most. i was into it for the first few songs, but after some mindless thugs took over the floor, I just wanted to get out of the way and make sure my girlfriend didn't get punched in the face. I've seen Soulfly enough from the front row over the years that I'm inclined to watch from a safer distance these days.. The place was pretty much packed last time they came through with bleed the sky, and this time the list of bands was even better, so it was a huge bummer to see the numbers so low.. i've got a few guesses. 1. Twins vs. Yankees game 3 lasted til around 10 o'clock that night (and it was MN show)
Additionally, I picked up the setlist backstage afterward and noticed that they had actually cut 4 songs off their 17 song list, so it looked like they were prepared for a much bigger night than they had... The band (aside from Max) was on fire, though. As passionate as ever.. With that said, Cattle Decapitation (especiallly) and Soulfly mucho kicked ass and totally made my journey worth it, regardless of how many fellow attendees showed up. _ On a side note, I've gone to quite a few shows lately around the area, and attendance has been dismally low all around. I saw Children of Bodom, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Skeletonwitch downtown at Epic (which, considering they all have new albums, should have been a WAY more attractive bill than SF in Maplewood) last week to a 2/3 empty concert hall with only 300 or so fellow headbangers. I saw Mono and Maserati last week with a group of about 125 others... The economy is killing attendance numbers everywhere. Cant ignore the cynics/ cant explore the gimmicks/\

Still very much alive, Elari. The combination of my senior year of my undergraduate degree at UofM and a gorgeous girlfriend has kept me away from this part of the internet this year more than i'm used to.. I'll be back full force later this year and next year.. anyway, here's the link to the photos I captured (you can also just click on the photo of max below to go to my blog page): http://www.culturebully.com/soulfly-the ... 10-11-2009 [url=http://www.culturebully.com/soulfly-the-rock-photos-10-11-2009:7hwx4bwg] Cant ignore the cynics/ cant explore the gimmicks/\
