I know this hasn't been posted yet, but a topic like this deserves attention. What are your personal picks for the best album of 2005? here's my top 5:

Pelican - The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw
Although I previous years, Pelican was constantly touted as the vocal-less version of ISIS, this disc finds them moving into their own

Sigur Ros - Takk
The second track is the best piece of music from the entire year.

Soulfly - Dark Ages
Max is back to his metal roots. For me, there's honestly not one disappointing second. Every time a listen to it, I find myself smiling my dumb face off, just agreeing with the sounds that are going on and saying to myself saying, ^yeah, that sounds PERFECT..^ makes for one hell of a live show too, literally. Darkest Hour - Undoing Ruin
The king's of art-inspired-thrash returned with one beast of an album. Flawless production, unceasing inventive riffs, and heart-on-sleeve honesty make for one amazing listen.

The Mars Volta - Frances The Mute
This band is in a league of their own...may be for everyone, but this is the most creative stuff i heard all year, from a band who's influences should be obvious to most people over 16.

it sure is heavy shit. I dig it too.

Some albums that came my mind....

Queens of the Stone Age - Lullabies to Paralyze

- First it sounded like big dissapointment, but after few rounds it opened up. One of the best albums definetely.

Blake - Planetizer

- Amazing album. No extra tracks.

Stonegard - Arrows

- Debut album of the year. Great shit from Norway. www.stonegard.org

El Caco - The Search

- Another great band from Norway. www.elcaco.com

Swallow the Sun - Ghosts of Loss

- Only doom(ish) band that I listen. So strong & beautiful music. www.swallowthesun.net

Dark Tranquillity was also pretty damn good. Coldplay's Fix You was also one great highlight.

+ QOTSA - Over the years and through the woods CD+DVD!!!

Can't think anything else right now.

I think Devildriver was quite boring. Their first was better IMHO.

I must say one more

Sentenced - The funeral album
- Guys made fucking great farewell album & tour. I'm not big fan of theirs but this album is sweet. Try to listen when it is dark and you're tired (remember to use headphones). They surely were unique. The one and the only suicidemetal group. They left with the style.

Where waters fall frozen and end of the road \\m/
