LOOK OUT FOR THE SOULFLY FRONT LINE SQUAD

February 19, 2006 5:48:00 PM UTC Post #1

i think this was the best soulfly show ive ever attended!it was amazingi thing they played for almost 2 hours or so, it seemed realllly long. the place was sold out, and i didnt have any tickets.
for the real review of the show u should scroll down a bit
leipzig is about 450 km from my place so my buddy and me decided to get there real early to at least meet the band if we dont get any tickets. so i got at 5.40 am saturday morning and we drove with this random dude all the 450 km and he dropped us at the trainstation, we only knew the roads name where teh club was at soulfly was playin, and had no idea how to get there. we just checked the map at teh train station and decided to walk south, it took us about 1 and a half ours to get to the club and it was freakin freezin cold and we had a lot of baggage, so our legs were dead when we got there. at the entrance of the club we already saw the first soulfly fan and we were like fuck! it was 12 am how could we not be the first fans to be there. wel that dude asked us whether we knew when the organisator would arrive, i think he first thought we were roadies. then he told us some stuff bout him knowing max and that he toured with eyesburn and slept over coyotes place a couple of times. so we decided to chill with that dude a bit more, he was wearin some really rare merchandising i had never seen before and he told us max sent it to him with a lot of other stuff when he saw em in serbia and met max. the dude was quite nice and told us a lot of stories. then he got us into the place even thou we didnt have ticekts and nothing. we told we didnt have tickets and he said hed sort out things with gloria and stuff so we were realy happy and thought we would meet the band and sutff cuz that dude had connections. the local concert organisatiors just looked at us really weirdly and we didnt feel comfortable cuz we thought they knew we were jus normal fans, but we didnt five a fuck.
around 2 the tourbus arrived, but noone cam out, our freiend talked ot some roadies and it seemed like he knew some of them, and some of them he didnt know and those ones treated him quite badly. then all of a sudded bobby walks into the hall, and says wats up. our freind tells him that he talked to gloria and that he hijacked all the way from croatia and gloria told him he could play the berimbau with max on stage, bobby jus said he didnt know anyhting and was kinda confused, my buddy and me just wanted to take a pic with im and say wats up, then he went to the back of the stage. we chilled for another our while the roadies were settin up the stage, puttin the amazin lookin dark ages banner up and bringing in the instruments, was amazin to see how all that shit is organized and how much work there is to do before the band plays. this was around 2.30. marc walks in, we tell him we saw him in cologne a couple a days and that dark ages kick ass and that its really awesome, well he goes to the back of the stage as well. then the local club manager comes up to us and asks wat we were doin there, the droatian kid tells her that he knows max blah blha blah and we get to put our luggage backstage, which was literally jus the back of teh stage, but still that was cool cuz we got to see the stage from all angles. then we got outta the place and waited in front of the tour bus to check whether max and joe were in there. christina came out and we said wats up, she was really really nice, and she jus knew the croation dude as the hijackker guy. well he told her the same story he told bobby and marc about him wanting to get on stage and stuff, was really annyoin em all so we just backed off a bit from him.then after some time gloria came out and we talked to her for a bit as well she was very nice as well, the croation dude told he the same thing bout him wanting to go on stage and stuff but she didnt say much. but was still really nice, she was really cool.then around 3 max walks in and the croation dude is like hey wats up i brought my berimbau and i really just really penetrating so max jus tells him to hold on and said, lemme say hi to everyone first and shakes my hand and notices my shirt sayin ^belo horizonte^ but didnt say  nyhtig bout that, i had a pic i wanted him to sign but he said he needed to make a phone call and hed be back, but unfortunatly he never came back again still he was really nice, but sounded a bit sick. well time went by, bobby and marc kept on passin by us, we were jus chillin watchin the stage gettin set up. then around 5 marc gets on stage and just starts jammin and warming up it was amazin!!he was playin flamenco shit and all kinds of stuff it was so wonderful listeing to the way he was playin, it was really amazing. that dude is such an amazing guitarist, he played for about an hour of those beautiful songs and stuff, it was so relaxin and jus amzin to see how that guy warms up! then bobby came on stage as well played a bit as well. then joe came out of the bus for the first time, unfortunatly i didnt dare goin up to him and to talk to him cuz i was a bit nervous so jus said wat up. when he got on stage they started goin really insane, doin the soundcheck. playin some sepultura classics, a bit of angel of death intro of carved inside, and were jus jammin, soooooo awesome. our croation friend was sittin outside the bus all this time wating to talk to max again to play with him on stage, seemed like he didn have the great connects he was talkin bout durin the morning. he was just sitting in front of the bus, playin his berimbau, was a bit pathetic, everyone he met, whether roadie or band member he was jus sayin how he wanted to b on stage and jam with the berimbau with max for a bit, well then in the end he tlaked for gloria again and she said he could come up for the drum jam if hed be in first row, so he was finally happy.

well this is where the real review for the show starts we secured our spot in first row as teh first fans entered the club. it was takin ages till that crappy supporting band finally started, the place was already movin quite a bit thou. this was the first sold out soulfly show i attended i think there were a bit more than a 1000 ppl. there were already quite a few big soulfly choirs then.
when the supporting band left the stage the pressure in first row already started, it was insane. then when the lights went out i was already dyin there was so much pressure on us in first row and the fence had a fucked up height so my ribcage is really fucked up now. well even thou the lights went out the band didnt get on stage yet. but people were already pushi each other around and there was so much excitement.a lot of soulfly screamin out, it was quite amazin, really good mood the crowd was great. i talked to the dude rite next to me and he told me he bought the max esp guitar version of the net for 3299 dollars, so there were quite cool fans around. when joe camoe on stage the place went insane. they opened with babylon and i was dyin cuz ppl were tryin to cut in from every direction. so i just headbanged like crazy tryin to get those motherfuckers off my back and hittin em with my dreadz there were some real assholes behin us, but we still fucked shit up.the rest of the setlist was the same. but the crowd was really cool, everyopne knew the words, there was a lot of singing and the band was really enjoyin themselves, and bobby jus like always doin a lot of eye contact. max recognised me and kept on pointing me out and screamin come on to me while i was holdin up my flag during roots bloddy roots, unfortunatly this time i didnt catch the pic he threw at me but still max had a lot of eye contact with me which was realy awesome! territory i got a bit more space and had a bit of time to regain strenght while shouting a long every single word of that song, i really love it!! max seemed like he had probles with his throat and was takin some medcine while on stage and kept on hittin his throat and lungs but still he was in a really good shape and his voice was all good. seemed like he was really enjoyin the crowd singing along. durin porrada he looked at me again cuz of my flag its so amazin how fast he sings that song, he could easily become a rapper when he came out wiht the berimbau the soulfly shout outs started again and he was jus smiling and playin the berimbau along, then started with zumbi senhor da guerre......he threw the berimbau stick in my direction again, but i didnt manage to get hold of it it so by accident i flipped it behind me and some other dude got it.durin tribe i was really dyin and even smackin my dreadz around didnt help to get those guys to back off a bit.some mutherfucker, tried really hard to get in btw my buddy and me, but noones ever managed to do that, but this guy was real stubborn then the drum jam, first time for me that i wasnt on stage for that and that i was watchin it from the crowds view haha, but it looked really amazin , really love that drum jam, the roadie picked the croation dude, he seemed so lost thou, was even holdin the drum stick the wrong way around.then max comes back on stage and just starts off with the riff from sympthom of the universe, that was quite cool too, not many ppl knew the song thou. but it was really cool seein em play it. the'n my favorite song, innnnnnnner self!!! that was fuckin sick too, bobby got so close to teh fans he shock some ppls hands while playin. they closed with eye for an eye of course, max was on his knees stretchin out his arm holdin a pic in his hands which my buddy was lucky enough to get, was quite cool cuz that was real personal as he was kinda givin it to him rite in his hands. max left the stage after that, the rest stayed played the outro, joe threw in some part of the drum, dunno wat it is called. people wanted more so many more soulfly shout outs!!!after they left the stage there were still about 3 rows jus waiting to get a set list or a pick! i wasnt very lucky this time:( just get a really water soaked setlist where u can hardly read anyhting, but still i think this was thebest soulfly concert i attended, the crowd was just really amazin and you could tell that the band was enjoyin it.and jus the way they started one song after another, the way they were combinin them was really awesome this time, like btw territory and execution style!! amazing. im too fuckin tired to wrtie more rite now ill add a bit more tomorrow!

i got loadz of pics, ill upload em soon. my buddy still really hurts and im so damn tired still. the gig finished at 11pm, they played really long. then we chilled outside the place and joe and rizzo walked by but we just told em it was an amazing gig and that they fuckin rocked, we didnt wanna bother them again and get pics with em and stuff cuz they seemed quite tired. plus in germany u got enough of those little kiddies in their linkin park shirts waiting outside the bus jus wanting to get smth signed, and joe and rizzo seemed really tired already. we left the place at around 1 and it was fuckin freezin, we had a 10 hour train ride to go. it was really fuckin exhausting and we only slept for 2 hours or smth on some bench at the train station, got our sleepin bags out and looked like fuckin bums we got home at 10 am with hardly any sleep, but it was definetly worth it!!!
