Love the opening industrial and dark sounding instrumental that leads to the punch-in-the-guts opener Bayblon which has some of the hateful lyrics Max has written to date.

From then on, it's all thrash and soft alternative instrumentals.

From the instant classic Frontlines to the peaceful Soulfly V (the calm before the storm?), Dark Ages is one of Soulfly's best work to date. The production is almost perfect with clear and passionate music and songs such as Arise Again and I and I bring back memories of Sepultura's Arise era.

So is it a return to the music that made Sepultura famous? Not really. It has it's elements here and there but the soulfly vibe (evident on Riotstarter mainly) is still here along with it's hauntingly beautiful instrumentals between Bleak and Stay Strong.

The lyric writing is still good and Max's singing is as angrier as he can get. The instrument are pulse-pounding and everything sounds top-notch.

As on other Soulfly albums, guests come to lend their vocals and these are clear and good.

    good album

    4/5
